A big thanks to everyone who made it out to the second ever Open Video Conference last weekend. Despite rain, wifi and A/V issues, more than 160 presenters led 60 diverse sessions for a crowd 1000 strong. That’s pretty awesome! From the technology, to the art, to the business and law surrounding open video, this year’s OVC provided a forum for practitioners, and helped move the needle forward.
This event would not have been possible without the support of the Ford Foundation and the Knight Foundation; our gracious marquee sponsors, Mozilla and Kaltura; our headline sponsors, Red Hat, .tv, BitTorrent, and Intelligent Television; and the incredible work of our sponsors and open video pioneers Flumotion, Entropy Wave, Zencoder, and Panda.
A special thanks is owed to our amazing volunteer crew. This year’s volunteer crew was made up of almost 60 passionate individuals—the people in the wine-colored t-shirts who helped with everything from setup, to registration, to real-time hustling. Without the volunteers, this event would simply not go. Volunteers, you ROCK!
Finally, thanks to Flumotion for powering this year’s webcast. Despite local network and A/V issues plaguing the production crew at the venue, Flumotion’s CDN provided rock-solid streaming in open formats. Flumotion is constantly there for market-leading firsts (like WebM streaming), and still the only CDN to support open formats like Theora.
If you enjoyed this year’s conference, or have ideas on how to improve next year’s, please get in touch. And keep an eye out for our wrap-up post and details on how to watch archived sessions. See you next year!
